Workshop Descriptions

Saturday Workshop is for the curious and creative. Trisha and Kibble will guide us through the core foundations and values of Lindy Hop. Through exercises on call-and-response and self-expression, we’ll explore Lindy Hop as a social dance where the music comes first. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and will get you feeling comfortable finding your own groove to the music.

We encourage our more experienced dancers to join this session to experience a different way of learning and strengthen your musicality and individual style. Or, if you have ever wanted to try the role you are least familiar with, then this is the space to do it.

Sunday Workshop will have a deeper focus on technique for our regular and more experienced dancers who are looking for more of a challenge. Building on the foundations from Saturday’s workshop, Trisha and Kibble will teach us how to bring clear movement, timing, and fluidity into our partnered dance. Expect more complex movements, shapes, and ideas that you can play with on the social dance floor. If you’re signing up for this session, you’ll be comfortable dancing to different tempos and learning at a slightly elevated pace.

Sunday History and Culture Talk - From Harlem to the Isles: Tracing the Journey of Lindy Hop in Britain. Packed with visuals, music, movement, and discussion, this is more than a “talk”. In this immersive session with Trisha, we’ll explore how Lindy Hop arrived in the UK through film, music, and wartime exchanges, its decline in the post-war years, and how it later gained a resurgence here. This session is included for all ticket holders so everyone has the chance to learn more about the history and culture of the dance we love. Come with your questions and be ready to learn and discuss!

Social Dances

On Saturday evening, we'll party with live music from local Midlands musicians (more details coming soon!), and on Sunday, we'll close the weekend with a farewell tea dance.

Concessions and solidarity tickets

We’ve set aside a limited number of concession tickets for members of the African Caribbean Centre, where we are hosted on the Saturday, to help make this event accessible to those who would otherwise find it out of reach. Please call the centre on 0116 221 1793 or visit in person for details on how to access this community offer.

Want to help keep the spirit of Lindy Hop as a community dance alive in our hometown? As part of your booking, you have the option to make a solidarity contribution in “Extras”. By doing this, you'll support more people who might not normally be able to afford it to attend.

As a volunteer-run group, we don’t organise our events for profit. So if you have the means to support keeping our events accessible, we really appreciate it.

Schedule changes

The information is correct at the time of booking, however if we add any activities we’ll be sure to keep attendees updated.
